Those who hold
low-calorie diet in hopes of losing weight, you should not expect too much
unless I do not exercise, the researchers note.
In fact, a new
study has found that a reduction in rations and substitute healthier
alternatives is not enough to effectively losing weight. Scientists from the University of Oregon say that this is happening because of
natural compensation mechanism that reduces a person's physical activity in
response to lower caloric intake.
"This
research shows that diet alone will not bring any significant results. One
should be combined with exercise to achieve its goals," said study author
Judy Cameron. To conduct research, Dr. Cameron and colleagues studied 18 female
rhesus monkeys. The animals were on a diet rich in fats few years. Then they
returned to the low-calorie food, which was followed by their activity and
weight.
"Interesting,
but a significant change in weight was not. Nevertheless, it is the changes in
activity. Natural levels of physical activity began to decline soon after they
crossed the monkeys eating fewer calories. When caloric intake even further
reduced, the level of physical activity decreased even more, "says
Cameron.
But another group
of monkeys had a normal diet but are passed daily training sessions of one
hour. This group lost weight. "Our study demonstrates that there is a
natural body mechanism which conserves energy in response to a reduction in
calories. Foods humans and animals is not always available, and the body was
found a strategy that successfully addresses these fluctuations," the
researchers conclude
